Retail Sale and Supply of Animal Remedies Course
This QQI Level 6 Course is organised by IASIS Ltd on a learner need basis and we aim to assemble
learners in appropriate locations and with a minimum of 10 – 12 learners per course.
Retailers selling Animal Remedies products must have a sufficient number of staff who have
successfully completed the Retail, Sale and Supply of Animal Remedies Course on the premises
during business hours in order to comply with S.I. No 786 of 2007 European Communities (Animal
Remedies)(No. 2) Regulations 2007.
TRAINING OF “RESPONSIBLE PERSONS” IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANIMAL REMEDIES REGULATIONS
Introduction
Under Regulation 32 of the European Communities (Animal Remedies) (No. 2) Regulations, 2007, (SI 786 of 2007), a
person responsible for the retail sale or supply of animal remedies, and who is not a vet, a pharmacist or a
registered nurse , must undergo adequate training in the proper and safe handling and storage of animal remedies.
Applicants for approval as course providers
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine approves all courses for the training of responsible
persons. From 1 January 2013, these courses must be QQI accredited. Prior to approval, course providers
must forward the following:
- QQI certification
- A copy of the course content
- A breakdown of course hours

Applicants to become a “responsible person”
Applicants have a duty to ensure they receive their training from a Department approved course provider. An
application for an animal remedies merchant’s licence will not be considered unless the responsible person
named in the application has completed a Department approved course.
Applications listing a “responsible person” who has either:
- Not completed a course, or
- Completed a course neither QQI accredited nor provided by a Department approved trainer, or
- Completed a course which is QQI accredited but not provided by a Department approved trainer,
will be deemed invalid.
